Aron Clymer

Aron runs a team of Data Scientists for Product Intelligence at salesforce.com.  The team engages with product executives to inform key product strategy decisions with data analysis and statistical modeling.   Aron completed his MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley in 2008, where he focused his degree on entrepreneurship, direct marketing, and strategy.  He has over 6 years of experience in Data Science and BI, and 16 years experience in enterprise software.

Yannet Interian

Data Scientist

Yannet Interian is a Data Scientist at Google. She received her PhD in Applied Mathematics at Cornell University. Her research interest are in statistics and data mining using large-scale data, with an emphasis on web logs and online social networks. She is also interested in the process of using large scale data for decision making.

Kirk Borne

Professor of Astrophysics & Computational Science

George Mason University

Kirk Borne is Professor of Astrophysics and Computational Science in the George Mason University School of Physics, Astronomy, and Computational Sciences. He received his B.S. degree in physics from LSU and his Ph.D. in astronomy from Caltech. He has been at Mason since 2003. Previously, he spent nearly 20 years supporting NASA projects, including the Hubble Space Telescope as Data Archive Project Scientist. He has extensive experience in Big Data, including expertise in scientific data mining. He has advised several federal agencies on data mining and Big Data applications. He is currently working on the design and development of the proposed Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST). He is a member of the American Astronomical Society's Informatics and Statistics Working Group, a member of the International Statistical Institute's Astrostatistics Executive Board, a member of the LSST Outreach Advisory Board, a member of the Zooniverse Citizen Science project, and chairperson of the LSST Informatics and Statistical Science Research Collaboration Team. In these roles, he focuses on achieving big discoveries from big data, and he promotes the use of data-centric experiences with big data in the STEM education pipeline at all levels. He believes in data literacy for all!

 

Scott Nicholson

Scott Nicholson is Chief Data Scientist at Accretive Health and has a PhD in Economics from Stanford. His team works to find innovative uses of data to help doctors make better decisions about care and to help people be more proactive about their own wellness. Before moving into the health care industry Scott was a Team Lead, Senior Data Scientist and Economist at LinkedIn where his work focused on using econometric techniques to increase user engagement and identify economically relevant insights from the rich LinkedIn data. Before LinkedIn Scott built real-time bidding and ad selection algorithms at an online advertising startup.

Catalin Ciobanu

Senior Manager, BI

Carlson Wagonlit Travel

Catalin Ciobanu is Senior Manager Business Intelligence for Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT). His responsibilities include driving the use of big data and advanced analytics to extract business insight and expand CWT’s product offering. Prior to joining CWT, he worked for the French National Center for Scientific Research and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he contributed numerous innovative techniques in the area of multivariate data analysis. Based in Paris, Ciobanu is a Romanian citizen with strong experience in research and innovation management. He holds a PhD in Physics from The Ohio State University and an MBA from HEC Paris.
